ABOUT ADRY
ARTIST STATEMENT
My sculpture is born because somewhere between my heart and my stomach I feel a huge visceral need that screams to be heard and be made into sculpture.
My most recent artwork represents a larger learning process for me and it’s driving force is undoubtedly “motherhood”; a life altering experience that paved a new direction for me as an artist. Since the birth of my children, a mixture of new emotions and concerns, have gained a different level of importance in my life. I now have the need to explore them and give them shape and expression in my sculpture.
Some of the pieces of this new body of work are made with a mold-making material and finished with acrylic paint and stains. Others are made with clay slip and finished in the same fashion. The sculptures are intended to evoke questions about the impermanence of life and to connect the viewer as well as the artist to many different issues surrounding childhood, motherhood, absence and loss. This work is not just a reflection of self, but expresses larger themes of life, love and loss which I am driven to explore further.
Even though my work started in a very intimate and personal way, it progressed and took on a more universal perspective. My work to date is just the beginning of what has now become a very ambitious project, one that has great potential for experimentation, self-discovery and growth.
